So at 1:15 you can really see the sharp, clear movements that are in the movement and how together all the dancers were. To have that many dancers doing the same thing can be very difficult so I thought that was well done. At 2:06 was my SUPER FAVORITE movement when the guys jumped over their partners because it was hard to do yet came off to the audience as seamless choreography. All in all I enjoyed the dance but thought it started getting predictable because of the music. You knew when they were going to do sharp, fast movements..etc.
I found the beginning very interesting in that instead of a mass group of people entering to join the group that was already on stage only two dancers entered and they presented a different energy to the beginning. While the group is still, the couple is moving quickly to the music instead of working against it by being still. When the couple begins, the group begins moving slowly in and out of angular shapes and by the time the singing starts they are in unison. I feel that the overall piece was influenced by different movement forms and the most visible was Hip-Hop. For example, at 1:32 we see the male dancer in the center doing a lot of isolated movement with his torso and arms that resembled what we would identify as "pop-locking". I saw this many times throughout the piece. Another form that I felt influenced the piece was African. At 3:35, we witness flexed feet and at 0:20 the moving of feet from side to side which are both characteristics we find present African dance forms. Meghan thought that the music made the piece predictable, but I feel that it helped strengthen the movement in that it fit the movement style. For example, the music tends to have sudden jerks that would in my opinion encourage some of the isolation we see. I also felt that the music's consistency contributed to the idea that time is always being wasted hence the title.
I like how at the very beginning section there were two dancers who came out doing the same movement but a different times. And how the rest of the dancers were doing completely different movement. I alos liked at around 1:27 how the movement was spit up so that a number of dancers whould do the choreography and then add other dancers into it. But as those dancers were added on the previous daners would stop and blend into what the other dancers were doing when not doing the choreography. What I also found interesing was how the dancers would use others bodies in doing the movement. How the guys jumped off the girls legs onto the floor and how the girls rolled off the guys legs. I also think the song had a big impact on the dance. It had a very sharp and hard hitting aspect to it, as well as the dance. Those two things really blended together and made the dance really cool.
I like how the two dancers at the beginning seem like they are traveling against the whole group and then they all come together and do the same movements but they all have different fronts which while dancing looks really nice when they are all doing the same thing because you may see things differently when you see it from different angles. A thing I also noticed was their transitions weren't too complicated it just seemed like the walked but walk with a purpose and when they were all doing the same choreography while facing to the front i like how they accented different movements to the music. I also noticed the part where 3 dancers were doing the same choreography and i think it was 2 others doing some different choreography they the 3 that were dancing went down and it seemed like 2 dancers had picked up their choreography and did the same thing just in a different direction. Another part I really liked and noticed was the part with the 3 groups of partners dancing I liked how they really depended on each other and are very in sync. I also like how when they were exiting they had that one dancer coming on seems like her movements are pushing them off. Adding on about the comment about the accents I like how they continue to use the music and work with it and at some parts breaking away from the structured choreography. Overall I really enjoyed watching this dance!
I really enjoyed the beging. You clearly see that its an unexpected movement, and like the cambra was facing another direction i felt it was nice how slow movement and fast went. At the 1st munit they ended up in unison. At a minute diffrent groups went. I felt as this dance was a good choreography, i agree to what Aki says about how the facings of each time they dance are. Also with Portia talking about the music. This dance is really fun to wach i like how its alot of dancers but each manage to stay in their spot with out hurting eachothers . i like this alot! (:
Wow!... This video made me think more about precision, and how every little part of the body plays a big role in a dance. Specially in a group dance where everyone is in unison at some points. In the part where they are on the floor between 1:15 and 1:20 they use their hands and fingers in a really powerful way. I usually think more about my arms and legs and maybe my torso because i thought is what it is seen more and has the more emphasis, but every little limb can count for as much when you do things like they do here. From the dance as a whole i loved the spatial design, specially when all the dancers are in the dance floor moving.
I have to say that i thought this dance was really good I really liked it. The repetition in this dance was really cool because they used so much of it, but the force and the energy behind it made the movement seem like it was the first time you actually saw it. I also liked how they had different groups through out the dance and at the end they all came together doing there group dance but putting it all together. I noticed to that some of the moves they did would go with the words of the song or the beat. So if the note in the music was sharp they would also make there movement sharp and it seemed as if that they tried to hit every sharp note there was in the song so i thought it was really cool. It was also amazing how the were so accurate in there timing and they stayed together.I also liked how in the beginning both the girl and the boy came out unexpectedly, then they both integrated into the dance with everyone else, and then again at the end we see the same scene with the same girl and guy.

ReplyDeleteall- do not reference time codes in the dance- describe movement and choreography as if your audience has not seen it (or can not see it)
ReplyDeleteall proofread your work! I suggest typing it in a google doc and then copy and paste it in here!
mtikekar- more detailed movement description ...the idea is that you need to describe the dance and the movement...
ptaylor- good description and observations
jcgibson- m more detailed movement description ...the idea is that you need to describe the dance and the movement...
ablackshear- good- try to reference by sections or say, "in the beginning, or in the last section," so your readers have a sense of the big picture...
anaflores- it's hard to understand what parts you are referencing from your description...
melina-more detailed movement description ...the idea is that you need to describe the dance and the movement...
