Our journey to Oz:
Start out by picturing a lovely tornado, jitterbug and snow dance. There were 14 Company members to choreograph on so everyone had a partner. Next take out one dancer due to a broken foot. That left us with only 13 dancers. After resolving the technical issues of having an unlucky 13 members to a piece, we had to work with our next obstacles. These obstacles being a live pit, 6th grade munchkins, a live chorus ensemble, actors, the tech crew, props and costumes. This was all in the course of about one week, 4 hours after school each day. As a Company we handle chaos very well but this was madness even for us. We were struggling even in our final dress rehearsal. Dorothy wasn't even on the bed for the tornado scene. Tuesday was the first showing for other schools and we had no idea how that was going to go. During concert time we may finish a piece right before we go on stage but we can handle that. Trying to wrap our heads around 90% of the performance being out of our hands was nerve wracking but exciting. Tonight is our first real showing for an audience other than schools. We shall see how this turns out!
